The Shamanic Arts Studio
The Shamanic Arts Studio is dedicated to creating the highest quality instruments and objects.
Each individual piece is made lovingly by hand from the highest quality materials and each is unique.
Each drum, rattle, or other object can be used for shamanic healing, meditation and other ritual healing work and is made by a shamanic practitioner of many years’ experience.
A good studio is an extension of the artist’s hand, heart, and mind. You don’t buy a studio; it is an accretion of many years. One by one you add the tools that increase your efficiency and the scope of things you can do. As one client exclaimed, “ Ah, this is where the magic happens.”
My studio is tiny—a heated one car garage, but everything is right at hand. It is a wood shop with power saw, routers, lathe, etc. and also a jeweler’s studio completely set up for hand making and casting silver and gold jewelry in small quantities. It is also a sculptors and painters studio and has a reference library of art designs, how-to books, and other things designed to add to my capabilities. That’s a lot in one small space, but it is handy and forces me to stay organized.
Raw materials—leather, hides, and wood as well as small sheets and wires of silver and gold—come in one door and drums, rattles and ritual objects come out the other. What happens in between is a miracle. I feel blessed, and sometimes frustrated, to be a part of it.
The Shamanic Arts Studio is basically a one-man operation. I am often simultaneously the master craftsman, the janitor, the accountant and the shipping clerk. Studio assistant Pilar Johnson-Dea takes care of administrative tasks so that I can spend more time focusing on creative work. What this means to you is that anything you buy is handcrafted by one person from start to finish.
As you can tell I am proud of my studio, which is located in Boulder, Colorado. I would be happy to show it to you. Please contact me for an appointment to see it.
